Weapons
Weapons are a character's basic equipment, used to deal damage, inflict Status Effects, or to cast TECHNICs. There are 27 weapon types in the game, which can be classified either by their basic function (striking weapons, ranged weapons and TECHNIC weapons), or by what hands they are used with (either by both, by the right hand, or by the left hand). The following chart shows the distinct weapon types, according to their classifications. Each weapon category has some weapons that can be purchased from Shops. You can find a quick list of what weapons apply certain statuses on the Status Effects page.
Starting with Update 56, select weapons have a chance to drop as an alternate color variant (CV), or "shiny" for short. These weapons will be marked with an asterisk (*) on their respective category pages and any shiny weapons found in-game will also be marked as such. Color variant weapons are identical in stats to the standard versions, but the chance of obtaining one is incredibly rare.
As of Update 71, star rarity on Weapons 13★ and above have had their rarities reviewed and altered to better reflect their abilities. As a result, some weapons have gained a PA Boost or had them increased. Any other former 13★ - 15★ weapons that did not have a PA boost or high level Status Effect have been reduced to 12★.
This change categorizes 10% PA Boost weapons as 13★; 20% PA boost or high level status effect weapons as 14★; and Customize, ?SPECIAL WEAPONS, high-end synth and Ultimate / Ultimate+ weapons as 15★. (Rods and Slicers are 20% 13★ and 30% 14★).

Striking weapons come with a fixed elemental attribute and percentage; Ranged and TECHNIC weapons adopt an element depending on which Photon Art are attached to them.
Two one-handed weapons can be equipped simultaneously, but only in certain configurations. One-handed striking weapons are held in the main hand; one-handed ranged weapons are held in the off-hand. You can equip one of each in the same slot of your palette, but you cannot equip two one-handed striking weapons or one-handed ranged weapons in the same palette slot.
For TECHNIC weapons, Wands are held in the main hand, and TCSMs are "held" in the off-hand (technically they float alongside you but take up an off-hand slot).
Twin weapons are a separate weapon class to the single versions - you cannot equip two handguns to make twin handguns, for instance.
Ultimate+ Weapons
Ultimate+ Weapons are denoted with a "/U+" when obtained (such as Cursed Dark Flow/U+), and are the ultimate end-game gear to acquire! They are found as rare drops in Ultimate Missions or from buying the board and synthesizing your own! More details can be found in the GUARDIANS Hub at the Exchange Shop. (As a side note - you can NOT grind or repair these weapons using Guardians Cash, but you can still use GC to change the element)
Customize Weapons
Customize Weapons are a unique set of gear that boost specific stats when equipped and have high PP. They have a special set-bonus with the GUARDIAN Shield and Ultimate Barrier. While not as powerful as Ultimate+ Weapons, they do offer unique boosts. Using a left handed Customize with a right handed /U+ is a common tactic. The boards require a hefty amount of Meseta and rare materials that typically can only be found on S4 and Ultimate difficulties to make. More information on how to obtain these can be found here or by clicking this section's header.
Ultimate Weapons
Ultimate Weapons are denoted with a "/U" when obtained (such as Cursed Dark Flow/U) that require exchanging multiple Weapon Cores to get or are found as rare drops on S4. Players can obtain Weapon Cores by exchanging certain weapons at the Photonic Forging Lab. More details on Ultimate Weapons can be found here or in the link in section's header.
Prototype Weapons
Some weapons used to drop as prototypes, which have a code name instead of their usual name (for example, M-EE0A02 is a prototype of a Mugunruk). Prototype weapons are now legacy equipment and no longer drop, instead these have been replaced by Ultimate Weapons. More information on the former Prototype system be found here or in the link in this section's header.
