Steam Deck Setup Guide

From Phantasy Star Universe Clementine

From CTB on Discord:

"Here's a zero to hero setup that would have went on the forum. Thanks to the mystery(?) fellow who made the configuration file!

  1. Press the Steam button, select Power, and then select Switch to Desktop.
  2. Using the touch pad (or however you choose to control your mouse cursor), select the SteamOS icon on the bottom left of the screen. Under All Applications, select Discover.
  3. Tap the Search field in the upper left portion of the Window, then bring up the on-screen keyboard or use an actual keyboard to search for Lutris. Install it.
  4. Open Lutris. There are multiple ways to do so, but for simplicity, choose the Games section after clicking the SteamOS icon again on the bottom left of the screen.
  5. Follow the on screen prompts if you get them (been a while so I can't recall if there were any...) Afterwards, click the + icon in the upper left field of the window.
  6. Select 'Search the Lutris website for installers." Enter 'phantasy star' in the following search field, then hit enter on the keyboard.
  7. There will be a couple of results - select Phantasy Star Universe. An installation window will appear which, if correct, states it is for Clementine. Click on the install button.
  8. Now you need to pick where you want PSU to go. I'm fine with the default. You can change it here if you want. Remember to check Create Steam shortcut if you want to access PSU from game mode, and the other options if you plan on using Desktop mode to play games. Click install once you're happy with the options.
  9. Finally, the installer will ask you to provide a zip file and an executable. Navigate here using Steam's firefox installation:
    https://psu-clementine.net/community/index.php?/client_download/
Download the client and patch files. You WANT the patch for this despite what the web page says. Download them to your desktop.
  10. Once these files are downloaded, click the Browse button and add them accordingly.

From here, the installer should guide you step by step to complete the installation. It will take some time at certain points, do not put your deck into sleep mode or exit the installation during the process. Once PSU is installed you should consider remapping the controls as PSU can't see the triggers. I recommend using Steam input to map the left/right stick clicks to the triggers and then Q for first person on touchpad click. due to how steam input works, the game won't recognize the Q input if it is on a stick all the time.

PSU demands very little from the Deck. You can gain battery without losing performance by using a TDP limit of 10 aand a GPU Clock frequency of 1000. You can get away with as little as 4 and 600 if you don't mind minor drops here and there."
