- This decoration is based on a popular Japanese ghost story known as 番町皿屋敷 (Banchou sarayashiki, or Bancho Dish Mansion). In this story, a young servant girl named Okiku is killed by her master (or would-be lover depending on the version of the story being told) by throwing her down a well. The decoration's description may imply that Okiku owned this doll before her death.
